Flyball Training

Flyball is a relay race between two teams of four dogs. Racing side by side, one dog from each team must go over four hurdles, trigger a Flyball box, retrieve a ball and then return over all four hurdles to the start / finish line where the next dog eagerly awaits.

Flyball is a sport for dogs of all breeds from tiny terriers to huge hounds, not just your traditional working dogs. All that is required is a dog that loves to run, jump and chase balls! Flyball teams compete in divisions against teams of similar speeds, which means that racing is fair and always exciting.

Flyball training at Frankston focuses on having fun with your dog. Unlike many other dog sports, competition Flyball is a team sport; so in addition to building a great relationship with your dog, Flyball training also has a great social aspect to it, with many long lasting friendships forming between team mates.  We offer training right through from complete beginners to competition level with several experienced trainers on deck each week to help you achieve your Flyball goals! We use only positive methods to train in Flyball, working with the dogs and handlers to identify what best motivates each individual dog.

Flyball training is held most Saturdays, with the exception of days where all trainers are away competing. Current Frankston Dog Obedience Club members are welcome to join our new beginners on any Saturday with beginners training starting at 11:30am. We do not require a specific level of obedience, however as Flyball is an off leash activity your dog does need to have a reasonably good off leash recall.
